TMI Presents: Summer Session '25
You're invited to watch as ten students from Understanding Media Intensive (2020-ongoing) present work inspired by the Counterblast 2025 call.
Earlier this month I sent out a call to those who have taken (or are currently taking) Understanding Media Intensive ‘ (36 weekly classes reading, discussing, exploring Marshall McLuhan’s 1964 guide ‘Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man’) “to prepare and present observations, insights, nuggets, probes toward illuminating our tumultuous moment. What is happening? What is happening to us?”
I was hoping for ten entries, and by the July 21 deadline (Marshall McLuhan’s 114th birthday!) I got them. Here’s the lineup:
1. Constructed Realities: Generative AI, Video & Social Media (Aynne Valencia)
2. Counter-Environments as transportation vehicles (Scott T Horowitz)
3. BOOKSWITHTIF (Tiffany Petty-Gilliam)
4. A Tale of Two Texts (Jacob Sager)
5. The Museum as a Large Room Pinball Machine (William Buxton)
6. Counterblast Erasure (Matthew Stillman)
7. McLuhan and the Relation of Environment to Anti-Environment (Joe Musicco)
8. Three Revolutions in the Context of McLuhan’s Theory. A Comic. (Kalina Kukielko)
9. Armaments & Amputees (Regina Atienza)
10. Organic Intelligence (Jamie Stantonian)
Presenters come from a variety of fields including education, arts, technology, consulting; and from England to California and points in between. Each will have about ten minutes to present, then we will have time for questions and discussion.
There’s even something of a half-time show!
Presenters will all be live via Zoom with broadcast to The McLuhan Institute’s YouTube channel so you can attend or watch later:. You can follow this link and bookmark it so you don’t forget:
