That said, Marshall was a man of his times and those times were very different from ours. I think his subversion was really important and his criticism through art and poetry really seems to have hit hard in the late 60’s. I’m not sure any of that would work today.
For one thing, I think the language is simply too sophisticated for the Twitter-age audiences and to some extent Marshall’s messages have been absorbed, co-opted and deconstructed.
Can you distill his ideas into something more direct and sparse for today’s audiences or does Marshall’s message need to maintain a perpetual wink and nod?
